Your Data Privacy

HaqMeher handles some of the most personal information a person can share — religious practice, family background, marital history, and a guardian's contact details. This page explains, plainly, what we collect, how it's protected, and who can actually see it.

The short version: your photo stays hidden until you choose to show it, your guardian's contact details are only ever revealed to someone once you've both agreed to connect, and your government ID is seen by our verification team only — never by other members.

What information we collect

Account details — your email, phone number, and password (stored as a secure one-way hash, never in plain text — we cannot see your password, even internally).
Profile information — the biodata you choose to share: age, location, education, profession, religious practice, family background, and what you're looking for in a spouse.
Guardian (wali) information — your guardian's name, relationship to you, and contact details, which every profile is required to include.
Photos — if you choose to upload one.
Government ID — submitted voluntarily for identity verification.
Payment information — handled entirely by Razorpay, our payment processor; HaqMeher never sees or stores your card, UPI, or bank details directly.
Basic usage information — things like login times and IP address, used for security (e.g. detecting suspicious login attempts), not for tracking or advertising.

How your information is protected

Some of this is visible to you as a member; most of it works quietly in the background:

Photos are hidden by default. Depending on your privacy setting, your photo is either fully private, shown only to members you individually approve, or visible to logged-in members only — never to the public internet, and never to search engines.
Guardian contact stays gated. Nobody sees your guardian's phone number or email until you send or accept an interest and both sides agree to move forward.
ID documents are locked down at the infrastructure level — the folder they're stored in is blocked from direct web access entirely, and the only way to view one is through an admin-only screen that checks an administrator is logged in first.
Passwords are hashed, not encrypted or stored as plain text — this is a one-way process, so even we cannot reverse it to see your actual password.
Mobile number verification (OTP) and reCAPTCHA on public forms help keep fake accounts and bots off the platform.
Every profile is reviewed by our team before it becomes visible in search, specifically to catch fake or inappropriate profiles before they reach anyone.
Standard web security practices are used throughout — protection against common attack patterns (SQL injection, cross-site request forgery), and the site is served over HTTPS so data in transit is encrypted.

Third-party services we use

We work with a small number of specialist providers, each for one specific purpose — we don't sell or share your data with anyone beyond what's needed to run these services:

Razorpay — processes membership payments securely (India-based, RBI-regulated).
MSG91 — sends the one-time verification code (OTP) to confirm your mobile number at signup.
Google reCAPTCHA — helps distinguish real members from bots/spam on public forms.
Our hosting provider — stores the platform's data on servers with standard data-center security.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, email us at support@haqmeher.com and we'll process the request. We may retain limited records where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example, payment records for tax compliance).

Your rights

You can request a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate details, or request deletion, at any time, by writing to support@haqmeher.com. You can also update most of your own profile information directly from your dashboard without needing to contact us at all.

Changes to this policy

If how we handle data changes in a meaningful way, we'll update this page and, for significant changes, notify members directly.
